This year is, unlike in previous years, neither a personality yet an anniversary is in the foreground of the cultural annual theme of the capital, rather it is the free music scene in the city, which will have a podium under the motto “Music builds Bridges”.

It focuses on the presentation of the present in Erfurt diverse musical potential and the inclusion of professional musicians and amateurs: music teachers, church musicians, DJ’s, composers, lyricists and arrangers, conductors, orchestras and bands, soloists… It is oriented on the different types of events and music in unusual places as well as based on the combination of music with other art forms such as drama, dance, painting, literature, photography, theater, graffiti, or the new digital media.

In addition, this year it was logic to use this year’s theme for the preparation of the “Reformation jubilee”, which is titled “Music and the Reformation” and to integrate church music-oriented projects.

The cultural theme of the year in Erfurt is also accompanied this year by a program book that gives a chronological overview of numerous planned activities. It is available from 25th of January at the Tourist Information Office, at City Hall and all the cultural facilities (free of charge). Also you can find in the internet all cultural offers of the annual theme, both in German and in English version (press release of the City of Erfurt from 01/24/2012)

CGE Erfurt e.V. contributes to the theme of the year with two projects:

“The little I-am-me” — musical project with children with and without physical disabilities

Over a period of seven to eight months, 30 to 40 pupils from the Erfurt Educational Center “School on Andreasried” and another primary school will get together every week, to get to know and to work on the story “The little I-am-me”. Aimed is the creation of a musical with several performances at the end. The music will be created by an artist from Erfurt, arranged and recorded. The text is created in cooperation with the children.

Theater and dance teachers and an opera singer will choreograph and rehearse the stage. The children will be “coached” artistically and educationally by professionals. The template for the musical is given by the book “The little I-am-me” from Mira Lobe. In a wonderful childlike way, it tells the story of “finding” identity. A small colorful animal lives happy and satisfied until it is suddenly confronted with the question: Who are you?

The Rhythm Bridge: Drum Festival and with citizens of Erfurt

Erfurt is colorful and fun. The city will one day become “infected” with the drum fever virus. The event consists of a workshop, drum circles and drum-chain, which is situated four kilometers through the city. The workshops include West African rhythms, samba rhythms, body percussion, and percussion for children, youth and adults. The shape of the drum circles combines the joy of common drums, ¬ hundred promote the experience in the community and the opportunities the moment with the magic of drums and other rhythm instruments to explore and enjoy. The Rhythm drum chain bridge is formed along the tram line 1, which connects the north and south of the city. Every five to ten meters is a person with a drum or similar instrument. At a distance of four kilometers 500-800 people will form a chain drum. In the meadow professional and amateur artists appear on stage.

We would like to invite all of Erfurt citizens to follow the offers and to fill the cultural theme of the year with life.
