2010 – Trash and emotions: “Make it loud!”, 10th – 13th August, Weimar

Creative realisation of excess energy and aggression – acting upon this maxim, CULTURE GOES EUROPE – Soziokulturelle Initiative Erfurt e.V. (CGE Erfurt e.V.) and DIE BOJE e.V. Weimar (“the buoy”) organized the project “Make it loud!”. Delinquent juveniles learned at this workshop, how to make music with trash and to express themselves creative thereby.

It was getting noisy in the Diakonie’s social store (“Sozialkaufhaus”) in Weimar. Young inmates of the detention center of Weimar were asked to slam, to become active physically, and to set free restrained aggression. Because from 10th to 13th of August trashpercussion took place at the social store in Georg Haar Street, Weimar – a rhythmic-musicalform of expression which uses various drumming-techniques and utilizes things from ordinary life like tables, chairs, jerrycans, further the own body and voice, as well as even trash-things.

Playing trash-instruments is exhausting physically and serves as an effective outlet for giving frustration and aggression free rein und letting emotions run free. The participants learned, that negative energy can be used quite reasonable. The well-organized team play required discipline and self-control, furthermore opposite regard and consideration, as well as common sense have been trained – aspects, which possibly become more important in the detention, as they do “outside”.

The realization of the project was supported by DIE BOJE e.V. Weimar. The juveniles have been guided by Bernhard Prodoehl, tap-dancers, musicians and trainers with national and international experience, i.e. from productions of Xavier Naidoo, Magic of the Dance and Thympanus Forte.
